Heavy-duty mixed-service casing. The Michelin X Works HDZ uses a high-endurance casing engineered for severe on/off-road duty, combining Powercoil high-tensile steel cords with a reinforced crown architecture to resist flex fatigue, heat build-up, and impact damage from quarry entries, demolition sites, and chipseal transport legs. A thicker sidewall gauge with abrasion guards and a stabilised bead apex reduces shear strain at the lower sidewall, while a cooler-running undertread lowers hysteresis to protect the belt package on long highway stints. The result is higher uptime, predictable wear across mixed surfaces, and a casing built to deliver multiple lives via Michelin Remix retreading, lowering cost per kilometre.

Cut and chip resistant compound. A specialised mixed-service tread compound with a high natural rubber content, optimised carbon black dispersion, and robust polymer network increases tear strength and resistance to chunking on sharp aggregate, while a low-hysteresis base layer limits heat generation under sustained load. The elastomer formulation is tuned for slow crack growth and reduced micro-tearing at the lug edges, maintaining block integrity on abrasive forestry roads and construction pads. This chemistry preserves tread geometry for longer, delivering consistent traction, extended mileage, and stable rolling resistance despite frequent transitions between sealed and unsealed surfaces.

Duracoil reinforced bead package. Duracoil technology stabilises the bead zone with a high-strength nylon protector and enhanced chafer wrap, creating a rigid, uniform seat that minimises fretting and heat at the rim interface during repeated articulation and curb contacts. The bead apex geometry balances stiffness and compliance to limit strain concentration where the carcass turns up, improving carcass endurance and air retention over heavy payload cycles. This engineered bead construction supports higher retread acceptance rates and reduces downtime from bead-area failures, which is critical for fleets operating in stop–start urban delivery to and from work sites.

Optimised tread with stone ejectors. The X Works HDZ tread features deep, wide grooves with tapered bases and integrated stone ejector ribs that disrupt stone drilling and actively purge debris, safeguarding the crown plies against penetrations. A zig-zag groove layout with interlocking tie-bars increases lateral stiffness for precise steering on-road while keeping open voids for self-cleaning in mud and loose gravel. The footprint is optimised to spread contact pressure evenly across the rib edges, reducing shoulder scrubbing on tight site manoeuvres and delivering uniform wear, reliable wet braking, and strong traction on variable substrates.

3PMSF and M+S certified traction. With 3PMSF and M+S markings, the X Works HDZ employs biting-edge geometry, micro-siping across the ribs, and directional lateral notches to maintain grip in low-temperature, wet, and slushy conditions commonly encountered on alpine passes and winter work sites. The void-to-rubber ratio and groove orientation are engineered to evacuate water and slush efficiently, while the compound retains elasticity at lower temperatures to keep the contact patch engaged. This all-weather capability enhances braking stability and steering authority under load, supporting compliance and safety without seasonal tyre swaps for New Zealand fleet operations.
